What is DGUV V3?

DGUV V3 is the third regulation of the German Social Accident Insurance, abbreviated as DGUV V3. This regulation, formerly known as BGV A3, sets the rules for the inspection of electrical devices and systems in businesses. Since 1979, it has been mandatory for all businesses located in Germany to comply with DGUV V3. The regular inspections according to DGUV V3 aim to increase safety in the workplace and protect business owners from liability for property and personal damages caused by electrical equipment. DGUV V3 is based on the first two regulations of DGUV, which require business owners in Germany to exercise due diligence in relation to their electrical equipment according to the rules of the Association for Electrical, Electronic, and Information Technologies (VDE). Ultimately, DGUV V3 outlines the process of inspections to ensure that a company's electrical equipment is always in a proper state according to VDE standards. Provisions of the Workplace Regulations (ArbStättV) and the Operational Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV) are also taken into account.

Portable electrical equipment are those that can be moved during operation or easily transported from one location to another while being connected to the power supply circuit (see also Sections 2.7.4 and 2.7.5 of DIN VDE 0100-200). Fixed electrical equipment refers to devices that are permanently installed or do not have a carrying device and have a mass that is too large to be easily moved. This category also includes temporarily fixed electrical equipment operated through movable connection cables (see also sections 2.7.6 and 2.7.7 of DIN VDE 0100-200). Stationary installations are those that are securely connected to their environment, such as installations within buildings, construction site trailers, containers, and on vehicles. Non-stationary installations are characterized by being dismantled after use and reassembled at a new location in accordance with their intended use. This category includes installations at construction and assembly sites, temporary structures, and mobile structures.

Ensure your safety now!

Experience has shown that the legally required DGUV V3 (formerly UVV or BGV A3) inspection of the emergency power supply system is often neglected. This can have dramatic consequences and should be changed as soon as possible.

Overview of the currently valid inspection intervals according to DGUV 3:

Wiederholungsprüfungen ortsfester elektrischer Anlagen und Betriebsmittel
System/equipment Inspection interval Type of inspection                   Inspector
